Professor Brydie-Leigh Bartleet is Director of the Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre, Griffith University, Australia. She is one of the world’s leading community music scholars whose research has advanced our understanding of the cultural, social, economic, and educational value of music and the arts in First Nations’ Communities, prisons, war affected cities, educational and industry contexts. Her work has connected music research and practice with fields as diverse as regional development, criminology, health equity and human rights. She has worked on five nationally competitive grants, five research consultancies and four prestigious fellowships (totalling over $1.2 million), as well as 150 research outputs in high-level national and international publications, and keynotes in Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Japan, Germany and Ireland. She serves on the Board of Music Australia, and has served as Chair and Commissioner of the International Society for Music Education’s Community Music Activities Commission. She is the co-founder of the Asia Pacific Community Music Network, and is Associate Editor of the International Journal of Community Music. In 2014 was awarded the Australian University Teacher of the Year. In 2018 she was awarded a highly competitive Art for Good Fellowship from the Singapore International Foundation, and in 2020-2021 she will be a Fulbright Scholar at New York University Steinhardt.
